発達に遅れのある子ども達と一緒に遊ぶとき、指導するとき、いつも心に留めている大好きな詩がある。
今日は、その詩を紹介したいと思います。
“When we plant a rose seed in the earth, we notice that it is small, but we do not criticize it as “rootless and stemless.”We treat it as a seed, giving it the water and nourishment required of a seed.
When it first shoots up out of the earth, we don’t condemn it as immature and underdeveloped; nor do we criticize the buds for not being open when they appear. We stand in wonder at the process taking place and give the plant the care it needs at each stage of its development. The rose is a rose from the time it is a seed to the time it dies. Within it, at all times, it contains its whole potential.
It seems to be constantly in the process of change; yet at each state, at each moment, it is perfectly all right as it is.”

大地にバラの種を植える時、その小ささに気付くが「小さい、芽がない、枝がない」などとけなしたりはせず、種だと受け入れ、必要な水をやり、栄養を与える。
初めて大地から芽をだすとき、「未熟だ、発育が遅い」と責めたりはしない。
最初に出た芽に、早く開きなさいと悲観もしない。
目の前で起こる過程に驚嘆し発達段階ごとに必要なケアやサポートを与える。
種から枯れるときまで、バラはバラであり続ける。
バラの中には常に豊かな可能性を秘めている。
バラはいつもその豊かな可能性を開花させる途中にいて、
変化、成長の過程にいるのです。
どんな段階にあろうとどんな瞬間であろうと、バラはそのままの姿で輝いている。
